Vancouver based guitarist Vern Beamish has been playing in various rock bands the last twenty years around the Greater Vancouver area. The last eight years have been involved with independent rock band China Syndrome who are “worth catching” according to Tom Harrison of the Vancouver Province. Vern is currently enrolled at the Vancouver Community College School of Music and is looking forward to sharing his music knowledge and experience with others.
China Syndrome’s sound can be described as a combination of driving pop hooks of the New Pornographers and Guided By Voices with liberal dollops of old favourites such as XTC and the Replacements. The band has released two albums: China Syndrome, 2007 and Nothing’s Not Worth Knowing, 2011. Both the albums were produced by David Carswell (The New Pornographers, Destroyer, Tegan & Sara, Evaporators, Apollo Ghosts) The band is recording a new album with David and it will be released in the fall of 2013. Monthly gigs at the Railway Club and other various Vancouver area clubs are a great opportunity to catch the full power of the band. The band’s website has recently been enhanced with multi-media content and a list of upcoming shows.
Vern’s full time schooling with the two year Music Diploma program at V.C.C is a commitment to strengthen his overall music ability, and to enhance China Syndrome’s potential.
